Funding has been awarded and the City Council is scheduled to vote on Tuesday to issue a permit to allow the plan to convert the motel next to the Ashland Homeless Shelter into temporary housing for the homeless. TheAshlandDailyPress says it will cost about $400,000 to upgrade heating and refurbish the front porch area and stairs of the two story building. City officials and the Northwest Wisconsin Community Service Agency are on board with the plan. The units once completed would help those staying at the shelter in making the next step towards stability. Before the vote, there will be a public hearing on the matter.
