The special town meeting scheduled for tonight in Lac du Flambeau to get approval from residents to raise the tax levy limit has been cancelled and now the town must vote on a referendum over road easements with the tribe. WXPR reports that due to the size of the population of the town, the only way a levy limit increase can happen is to put it to a vote as a referendum. A draft of the most recent town meeting minutes shows the town is considering giving an additional million dollars a year to the tribe to make sure all roads in town would remain open. There are also three properties the town is considering deeding over to the tribe. There is a town board meeting with the Tribal Government on Friday to continue negotiations.
