Ironwood City Commission Decision Makes It Easier to Keep the City Beautiful

The Ironwood City Commission at its meeting on Monday approved making the use of the city’s compost site free for city residents this year. TheDailyGlobe reports last year, residents paid $5 a load and non-residents were charged $15. City Manager Paul Anderson in a memo to the commission that residential revenue from the site brought in $2500 last year with considerable confusion regarding the payment system and the expense of staff to monitor the site and process the payments. This year, there will be no charge for pickup truck or trailer loads of leaves and yard waste as well as tree and tree limb disposal. Non residents will not be able to use the site this year. Commercial businesses such as tree services will still be required to pay a $3,000 annual fee.
