Patience is the watchword in the U.P. after representatives from FEMA were in the area to inspect flood damage at the beginning of the week. TheDailyGlobe reports four inspectors from FEMA along with staff members of the Gogebic County Road Commission and other county and regional leaders started at road commission headquarters and then toured the area. Initial estimates of damage may come in lower than expected due to calculations based on FEMA formulas, and officials commended local leaders on the comprehensive collection of information prepared for the visit. Gogebic County Road Commission Engineer Phil Strong said he hoped to have costs ready for submission to FEMA yesterday and pointed out that besides asking for federal help, the region will seek funding from several programs, both state and federal. Strong also said obtaining FEMA assistance is a process, which may take into next year before funding is issued.
