Assessments of Flood Damage in U.P.Continue, Aiming At Asking for Federal Assistance

The talley of damage caused by storms and flooding contines to rise as area officials struggle to ascertain what is needed in order to request federal assistance. TheDailyGlobe reports at present damage is around $10.6 million in Gogebic County alone, and will probably be more, as soon as officials are able to get back out and continue their inspections, which had to stop due to that last late season storm that hit the U.P.. Heidi DeRosso, 911/Emergency Coordinator for Gogebic County says the minimum damage to qualify for federal help is just under $18.5 million for the Western U.P. In order to meet that requirement, 6 counties have banded together to submit an assistance request, including Gogebic, Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette and Iron, but until each county reports back with clear numbers, submission of the request is on hold.
