At their meeting at the end of March, the Lakeland Union High School’s board of education decided it needs more information regarding food service data for the district before deciding whether to continue a free breakfast and lunch program for students. The Lakeland Times reports the board approved the concept suggested by board member Pamela Carroll in January. But the food service director and the district business manager gave a presentation to the board at the meeting in late March, which said almost 35% of kids in the district were not taking advantage of the program. The next step for the district is go apply for the Community Eligibility Program Provision that would help with funding for assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
