The grievance hearing regarding former Ashland County Jail administrator’s firing is scheduled for April 13-14. A grievance hearing is much like a trial, with both Kim Lavasseur and the county able to call witnesses and present evidence. Lavasseur was fired in January, which she claims was without cause. Once the hearing has been completed, it will be up to the hearing officer, whose identity hasn’t been revealed yet, to issue a decision as to whether Lavasseur’s grievance is valid. If the grievance is sustained, she could be reinstated, be given a suspension or written reprimand rather than being fired, and could be given back pay. If her firing is judged to be warranted, Lavasseur could then appeal in a federal court.
