As Bessemer begins its search for a new Department of Public Works director, the city council at its last meeting discussed collecting data on applicants applying for the position. TheDailyGlobe reports they also voted to post the position to the public after having an internal post open since the end of March. Neal Nelson, the current director is expected to retire this fall. Councilperson Kryshak said the director’s position is important, requiring an extensive skill base that included certain certifications. Councilperson Kryshak said the job isn’t an easy one to fill, which is why the council should look at a formulaic approach to applicants.
