The May Ballot Will Have Many Residents in the Area Voting on Millages for Operating Budgets…
Millages will be a big part of the ballot in May, with a number of school districts, villages and townships voting on issues particular to their area. Baraga, Houghton and Ontonagon counties all have something to support. TheMiningGazette reports in Ontonagon County, Bohemia Township residents will decide on a six year, 1-mill operating millage that replaces one that has expired and that would bring in almost $9,000 the first year. Stannard Township will vote on a 1-mill, five year millage to finance operating and maintenance expenses for the Township Fire Department, that would raise just over $25,000 in it’s first year. That millage would replace a single mill that expired in 2021.
