Impasse With Lac du Flambeau Tribe Continues, Town Board Hires Law Firm, Residents File Claims in County Court…

The Lac du Flambeau town board has hired an outside law firm to examine federal law in the property dispute with the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians , and three landowners have filed claims in the Vilas County Court. According to the LakelandTimes, in an exchange of communications, the town has requested opportunities to negotiate with the tribe and the tribe has declined, saying they are owed certain compensations and will not move the barriers that block four roads into the area until that compensation is made. The claims filed by property owners say that the town has not acted in their best interest and in at least one of the claims is asking for damages of over $700,000.
