The upcoming trial of a man charged with sexual assault of a child will get underway with the media allowed in the courtroom. The LakelandTimes reports the defense for Gary Karas of New Holstein had petitioned the court to exclude the media from the proceedings which are slated to start on January 20th in the Vilas County Courthouse. The defense stated that the mere presence of the media in the courtroom would be prejudicial. Judge Daniel Overbey said that indeed, Karas is entitled to a fair trial, however, he said that the media also has the right to attend the proceedings. Judge Overbey has set strict guidelines for the media in the courtroom.
