Ashland Police Department Could Be Closer to Body Cams for Officers

The Ashland Police Department is one step closer to getting body cams for their officers. Officers currently are equipped with audio recorders on their belt and cameras in their vehicles. The body cams would give extra coverage of daily activities and proof of what happens in the field. The DailyPress reports the purchase of cameras and the management system to accompany them would cost around $52,000 and could be financed in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice. The city council was slated to vote on the purchase at their meeting last night, so the next step would be ordering the camera system. After the initial order, cameras could be on officer’s tool belts in a couple of months.
