Neighbors of a home on 11th Avenue West in Ashland heard the smoke alarm sounding on Friday, and called firefighters, who arrived in just a few minutes, but the fire had already put itself out and caused extensive damage to the occupant’s apartment and belongings. The Daily Press reports Ryan Wilmer and his partner Bethany Rupp lost everything in the blaze in their home and are not sure where they’ll spend the holidays. Wilmer and Rupp were at work at the time of the fire and Wilmer’s employer, the Bad River Lodge and Casino has offered the couple a place to stay through the weekend. The couple was given $300 for clothing and money for food, but they are now searching for a permanent home and everything they need to settle in.
