An American flag and flagpole will be installed at the halfway point of Ashland’s Oredock to replace the one installed without the city’s permission by residents Don “Ocky” Jaskowiak and Jim Bradle. The DailyPress reports that Ashland Mayor Matthew Mackenzie has exercised his rarely used mayoral executive authority to do so without running it by the city council for approval. The Parks and Recreation committee declined to accept the flag until after city residents were polled on the matter when consulted in October. After consulting with City Attorney Tyler Wickman, McKenzie said he decided it was time to move forward. The estimated $10,290 project would be donated to the city and be funded with money set aside by the Ashland Oredock Charitable Trust. Unused funds would be returned to the trust.
