Bayfield County Announces Scholarships for Those Interested in Local Governance

Bayfield County has opened four scholarships for high school seniors who reside in the county and are students at Ashland, South Shore, Bayfield, Northwestern, Drummond and Washburn school districts. The scholarship is intended to help students learn about and participate in local government. The DailyPress reports that to qualify, students must attend a meeting of municipal government and one county board meeting and speak briefly at bothduring public comment portions, informing the bodies of their intention to apply for the scholarships, telling the local governments their name and the school they attend, the interest they may have in local government and the reason for applying for the scholarship. Students also must complete a one-page essay. To apply, students can contact their school guidance counselor’s office or Bayfield County Administrator Mark Abeles-Allison.
