There is still no resolution in the issue of the closure of a primary snowmobile route in Gogebic County. The route has been closed by the owner of the property, Snow River Mountain Ski Resort, formerly Big Snow Resorts. Snow River has stated that insurance cannot be secured to cover any possible liability with keeping the portion of trail #2 in question open. That segment runs between Wakefield and Ironwood and the closure will impact residents west of Wakefield as Trail Number 2 is the only DNR-managed trail to the west of Wakefield in the UP. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Gogebic Range Trail Authority in Gogebic County continue to work on a solution to the problem.
