The Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency wants residents to be aware of a series of rental scams going on in the area. Scammers take photos of a property listing from Zillow and list them as rentals they have. They will then charge an application fee, asking for banking information, photo ids and social security numbers. When looking for a new place to live, the housing director of the GOCAA says only deal with a verified real estate agent or the owner of the property themselve, and don’t volunteer information or pay a fee until you’ve verified the listing you’re interested in is legitimate.
