The Ashland City Council voted to give the Fire Department the go-ahead to apply for a $10,000 grant to replace their 25 year-old HazMat Response Team’s trailer. According to the Daily Press, the department has a wide range of equipment designed to handle various spills and gas leaks, including containment equipment. The team is also equipped to handle decontamination of people who come in contact with dangerous materials, which takes up a lot of space, hence the need for the new trailer. The grant will not require a match and the difference in the cost will be taken from department funds. Wisconsin has made the one-time grants available to EMS providers for equipment and training. The devices would free up one member of an ambulance crew for other tasks during medical emergencies
