The race for Vilas County Sheriff is starting to get interesting. According to WXPR, Vilas County Captain Gerard Ritter is challenging the incumbent sheriff in the republican primary scheduled for the 9th. Currently, there are no democrats running for that office. Ritter says the reason he’s running is to give the community a choice. If Sheriff Joseph Fath were to decide to retire anytime in the next four years, the governor would be the one to choose a new sheriff, not the community.
