County Fair Board Dealing With Challenges

The Gogebic County Fair Board is scrambling to make adjustments after the County Board of Commissioners shut down the use of several buildings at the county fairgrounds, just weeks before the fair is due to start. According to the DailyGlobe, the county had contracted an engineering firm to inspect the buildings and presented a study that recommended the expo building, poultry barn, horse barns, and grandstand not be opened for use. Fair Board Chair and County Commissioner Jim Byrns is questioning why the commission didn’t notify the fair board until now. Repair and replacement costs are estimated at almost $2 million.
