At the meeting of the county board of directors this past Tuesday, a resolution was passed that increased wagers for certain positions on the county’s payroll. Certain corrections officers at the Vilas County jail will receive an additional $3 an hour and social workers will receive will receive a $4 an hour increase in order to be more competitive when it comes to retention and recruitment and hiring. The resolution comes about a month after the county approved a resolution to use a $1 million from the general fund to bolster efforts to hire and retain corrections staff at the county jail and staff in the social services department.
