The operator of the electric grid that includes Michigan, The Midcontinent Independent System Operator or MISO is letting people know there may not be enough electricity supply to serve Michigan and 14 other states this summer due to predicted warmer temperatures. That means the entire state could be subjected to controlled or rolling outages as an emergency measure. The group says “capacity shortfalls in both the north and central regions of the state” could be especially affected. MISO says it has never had to implement controlled outages in Michigan before. Utilities have said they’re prepared to ask large industrial customers to use less energy if the situation warrants.
