The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department reports that new cases of COVID-19 continue to be on the rise in the area over the past seven days. Gogebic and Ontonagon counties moved from low to medium COVID-19 community levels, with 32 cases in Gogebic and 7 cases in Ontonagon counties. The increased count marked the fifth consecutive week that virus cases increased, but fortunately, there have been no deaths. The health department in Iron County, Wisconsin reported 10 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. As of May 12, Iron County had a medium COVID-19 community level. According to the CDC website, however, the community level was back to low as of Thursday.
