Vilas County Says Cranberry Island Needs Work, Not for Sale

The Vilas County forestry, land and recreation committee at its meeting last week made it clear that the county will not be selling Cranberry Island to the city of Eagle River. County officials are waiting until the weather clears to make an inspection of the island with members of the Eagle River Chain of Lkes Association. A resident of the island told the committee that Cranberry Island is one of the most neglected parks under county ownership. The committee discussed all the issues that needed to be addressed, and agreed that the next step is a visual inspection.
