Snowmelt Almost Done for Season, Rivers Staying in Their Banks

Despite the recent snowfall, snowmelt is almost finished in the area, and of course, that snowmelt then has to go somewhere, like the Black River in Gogebic, which right now is at high tide. The Daily Globe reports there is no major flooding on local roads thus far, and it’s unlikely that there will be, as the cooler weather has kept the snowmelt from happening all at once. County emergency management has purchased 4,000 sandbags and the Ironwood township recently also purchased sandbags just in case. In the event of a flood emergency, county sheriff’s offices would issue notifications and help the cities and towns as needed.
