Fire Claims Apartment Building in Bayfied, Displaces Families

A fire in an apartment building in Bayfield that then spread to the building next door has burned the building to the ground and has displaced six families. The fire started around 1 pm Saturday afternoon in the apartment building at 239 Mannypenny. It then spread to the building next to it, and took firefighters almost seven hours to contain and put out due to high winds. According to firefighters on the scene, a police officer and a firefighter were treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation. The families have been housed at the Bayfield Inn for a few days and Windseeker Rentals and Core Community Resources are providing lodging and other assistance.
