A deputy with the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office has been cleared of an assault and battery charge in connection with a 2020 incident involving a prisoner. A jury found Deputy Scott Voit not guilty of misdemeanor assault . Voit was intially charged in 2021 with misdemeanor assault and battery along with a felony charge of misconduct in office by a public official. The felony charge was dismissed in August after a judge found there was no probable cause for that charge to continue being pursued.
