Due to the demand for dock space in Black River Harbor, the Ottawa National Forest Service will be issuing docking permits by lottery this year. According to the Daily Globe, Black River Harbor offers one of the area’s only access points to Lake Superior. Lisa Klaus, public and administrative affairs officer for the U.S. Forest Service, says the service continuously receives requests for more permits than are available. Previously, permits have been given on a first come first come basis, but because of the level of demand, the lottery is the most equitable and transparent solution. The lottery will be conducted with the assistance of the Ironwood Chamber of Commerce. The drawing will held during the chamber’s board meeting on April 12.
