The Bessemer city council has voted to change the type of sewer pipe used for the city’s water and sewer project due to an increase in price for the product. The Daily Globe reports that according to the project manager for C2AE , Darren Pionk said the pipe material provided for the 2021 construction season was at pricing agreed upon during bidding, however, due to the pandemic, the price for the remainder of the sewer work to be completed in 2022 and 2023 cannot be honored according to the original estimates. Alternatives were studied and the pipe ultimately chosen, will cost an additional $95,000, which will be absorbed by the project’s contingency fund.
