The Vilas County Department of Social Services has applied for funding through the American Rescue Plan Act funding for a county drug treatment court. The Director of the Vilas County Department of Social Services Kate Gardner said that the biggest component of substance abuse mitigation would be a drug treatment court. Gardner said the Milwaukee based non-profit JusticePoint would assist in writing a grant proposal, and if the funding were awarded, the county would be able to move forward with getting a team together to continue planning for the court itself. The proposal for the drug court has the support of the district attorney and judge.
