Snowmobile Season Open, Riders Should Proceed With Caution

Snowmobile trails in Vilas and Oneida county are now open. Lakes and rivers in both counties are off limits, so riders are advised to avoid them until clubs have been able to check and mark them. Snowmobile clubs have been prepping trails for the last week, but trails are still in early season riding conditions. Vilas County Parks and Recreation Supervisor Todd Bierman said riders should watch their speeds as corners still have ice under them. Also, riders should stick to trails, as going off trail can be considered trespassing. Oneida County Forest Administrator Paul Fiene said conditions will still be rough in areas so riders should exercise caution.
