Program At Ashland Co-Op Makes Fresh Food Available to All

A new program at a local food cooperative hopes to make fresh, nutritious produce more accessible to those in need. The Produce Double Dollars program is the first of its kind in the state, where customers can show their EBT card before checking out at the Chequamegon Food Coop in Ashland and will be given a 50% discount on all fresh produce. The Coop has partnered with the Milwaukee based non-profit Hunger Task Force, which provided a grant to help implement the program. The Coop hopes to make the new program a permanent offering to its clients.
