The Bessemer City Council is considering an ordinance to regulate temporary use of portable generators. Several years back, a house burned down due to a generator being used long term. According to City Manager Charly Loper with that track record the city needs to differentiate between the use of generators on a tempoarary basis and long term and then regulate the long term use as a replacement for connection to the local power grid. After much discussion about creating an ordinance and then how to enforce it, the council voted to table the issue until they receive some input requested from the local fire department.
