Replacement for Pete Matonich Appointed

Wakefield resident and Gogebic County Undersheriff Ross Solberg has been appointed to be the next Sheriff of Gogebic County effective January 1st, 2022. Solberg has 28 years of full-time law enforcement with the Gogebic County Sheriff’s office. Solberg replaces Pete Matonich, who is retiring and will complete his service to the county on Dec. 31st. Matonich said in a letter of recommendation to the appointment that there is no one more qualified to fill the post. Solberg will be sworn in at a later date and will promote a new undersheriff to fill his old position from within the department.
