The Mercer board of supervisors held their regular meeting this past Thursday evening after a public budget hearing and a special town meeting of electors. During the meeting, the Rice Lake Association of Mercer received a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resours to remove curley leaf pondweed from the Lake to minimize downstream contamination in the Turtle River Watershed. The grant is to be disbursed over the next three years and should total $127,000.The project to remove the curly leaf pondweed has been going on for the better part of a year, with over 40 tons being pulled from Rice Lake thusfar.
