Western U.P. Health Department Reports Increase in COVID-19 Cases

According to the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department, the number of COVID-19 cases in Gogebic, Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga and Keweenaw counties have increased since last week. From Sept. 22 to Wednesday, there were 26 new COVID-19 cases in Gogebic, nine new cases in Ontonagon, 29 new cases in Baraga County, 78 new cases in Houghton, and nine new cases in Keweenaw for a total of 151 new cases. There were four new deaths in the five-county area, all of them in Houghton County. The Western U.P. Health Department announced last week that it has partnered with the Michigan National Guard to provide weekly, free community-wide COVID-19 antigen testing and vaccination sites in the health district, which are already underway.
