Sexist Comment By County Chairperson Causing Backlash

An alleged misogynistic comment by County Chairperson Ron de Bruyne has a number of female Vilas County department heads questioning whether de Bruyne can be taken seriously in a leadership position. The seven women are leading an effort within the county to make it a healthy and positive work environment. In August, a letter was sent to the Vilas County Human Resources committee, signed by all seven women, listing areas of concern regarding Human Resources Manager Richard Kipley. Upon hearing about the letter, Ron de Bruyne commented to Vilas County Corporation Council Jack Albert referring to the women involved in extremely profane and derogatory terms. The women who sent the letter are hoping de Bruyne chooses to step down.
