Michigan’s Superintendent of public instruction Michael Rice visited Luther L. Wright K-12 school midweek as part of his tour of schools in the Western U.P. Ironwood Schools Superintendent Travis Powell and K-12 Principal Melissa Nigh lead him on a tour of the building and visited some classes while they were in session. Rice said he likes to regularly tour schools to get a “view from the ground”, which helps inform his decisions back in the legislature. At several points during the tour, Powell called attention to the contrast between the almost 100-year-old school building and high-tech such as the new televisions in every classroom. Superintendent Powell said he thought the visit went very well.
