House Fire Causes Bessemer to Consider Generator Ordinance

Bessemer is considering creating an ordinance to regulate generator use, after a recent house fire was attributed to prolonged generator use. Counilor Bill McDonald suggested the city pursue creation of the ordinance at the October 4th city council meeting. City Manager Charly Loper said putting an ordinance in place is possible and that it would require a permit for temporary generator use, and that said generators could only be used in case of an emergency. The language of the ordinance was discussed and the council tabled the issue to allow for City Manager Loper to gather more information.
