The Bessemer School District has made the decision to cancel several events due to a surge in positive COVID-19 cases in the district, including three football games and scrimmages scheduled through this week. Superintendent Dan Niemi says some of the athletes on the Gogebic Miners co-op team with Wakefield-Marenisco have been affected by the outbreak. Niemi says cancelling games in advance allows time for teams to adjust their schedules. The outbreak also forced the cancellation of the fall choir concert which will not be rescheduled. Now the first choir performance will be the Christmas concert.
