Training exercises at the Gogebic Iron County Airport terminal gathered area departments from Bessemer, Wakefield, and Ironwood townships as well as volunteer units from Kimball, Anderson, and Oma in Wisconsin. Training with water trucks and the airport’s Oshkosh Striker 4×4 aircraft, rescue, and firefighting vehicle operating. The ARFF was purchased in June 2019 and is designed specifically for an airport ground emergency involving a variety of types of fires, as well as handling passengers and flight crews. The AARF is moved to the scene of a fire and begins operations until area units arrive, providing rapid suppression support.
