Construction crews have started dismantling the U.S. 51 bridge to help make way for a new single lane roundabout. That includes removing the road deck from the north half of the bridge. All traffic will continue to be directed to the eastbound lanes until the north half of the bridge is taken down, which should have been completed yesterday. The other half of the bridge is due to be removed somewhere between mid and late July, with the whole project being finished in late October. The existing bridge has been in service since 1962, and was limiting oversized and overweight loads.
