Online Transactions Help Ironwood Sales Tax

Online shopping may be responsible for a boost in sales tax in Iron County or at least the county’s ability to track purchaser origin for tax purposes, according to reports at the county board of supervisors meeting early last week. The monthly sales tax was just under $231,000, which is a 29% increase over last year. Online sales transactions require the purchaser’s address, which makes sure the tax is paid and gets back to the county. Every month of 2021 thus far has seen a double digit increase in sales tax over the previous year.
