The Bessemer Area School District has voted to approve the use of Massie Field for the annual 4th of July fireworks celebration. The 4-1 decision followed discussion about concerns of litter on the field, the consumption of alcohol and tobacco on school property and the flow of crowds in and out of the stadium. The approval was given with the contingency that the 4th of July Committee assume responsibility for clean up of the field and that the fire department clean up the remains of the fireworks. The board also agreed to revisit concerns next year.
