Restoration of the Region’s Rail System Would Benefit Local Economy

RESTORATION OF THE REGION’S FREIGHT RAIL SYSTEM WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY

Restoring the region’s freight rail system will take a concerted effort to show sustainable economic viability, according to John Duncan Varda, a representative of the Wisconsin Central Group freight rail stakeholders and the Lake States Shippers Association Cooperative. Varda’s presentation took place last week with members of the Northern Rail Transportation Commission present, including board members from Gogebic and Ontonagon counties. It was agreed by those attending that restoration of east west rail lines across Wisconsin and the UP would be essential to bringing economic growth to the area.
