Protection of Wildlife in the Area A Priority

PROTECTION OF THE AREA’S WILDLIFE A PRIORITY IN THE AREA

The Iron County Comprehensive Planning, Land and Zoning Department Committee met earlier in the week to review a draft ordinance to regulate the deer breeding industry. The ordinance is intended to protect the local natural deer population from chronic wasting disease, by regulating and enforcing penalties for those who breed deer artificially to export to captive hunting ranches or meat processors. Animals may not be transported from areas within 10 miles of any documented farm raised or wild deer that have tested positive for a communicable disease. The ordinance would become effective upon passage by the County Board of Supervisors.
