HURLEY PD AND IRON COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RESPOND TO POLLUTION IN RIVER

The Hurley Police Department responded to a report by a passerby of an oil substance leaking from a stormwater pipe, believed to possibly be hydraulic fluid dumped into a storm drain. The pedestrian put in a call to complain of an oily sheen on the river near the Hurley bridge. The City and Iron County Emergency Managment responded, placing absorbent booms in the river to contain the substance. Those booms will remain in place through today to make sure as much of the estimated 50 gallons of fluid is contained and absorbed.
