WAKEFIELD LOOKS FOR SOLUTION TO IRON BELLE TRAIL EXTENSION
A new obstacle has been encountered to the continued expansion of the Iron Bell Trail, which now stretches from Hurley to Ramsay in Gogebic County. Now an extension from Ramsey to Wakefield waits on one of the five owners of property surrounding Plymouth Lake’s willingness to allow a trail easement through his property if the city agrees to promise that motorized watercraft will not be able to access the lake through city property. If the covenant happens, that means public access would be on land only. Wakefield City Council members last week voted to refer the matter to the planning commission, which also does double duty as the city’s recreation board.
