Bessemer Approves Town Budget With Questions Regarding Deputy Treasurer Position

BESSEMER TOWNSHIP APPROVES ANNUAL BUDGET

The Bessemer Township Board approved the annual budget, despite some questions from residents about an increase to the deputy treasurer’s wage and the necessity of the Deputy position. Melissa Prisbe will be taking over some of the treasurer’s duties as the new accessor, and it’s not yet clear what her duties will be. However, township treasurer Hope Tarnaski says there’s plenty to do, including mailing and printing tax bills. Tarnaski had asked for a $600 increase, in the end the board voted to increase the deputy treasurer’s salary by $400. The board also gave Tarnaski a $5,000 raise and made adjustments to the assessors supply budget.
