Ironwood Township VFD Purchases Thermal Imaging Units

The Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department is the proud owner of six personal thermal imagers, used to find hotspots in walls, the temperature of a room in a building on fire and people in a burning building by detecting their heat signatures. The Township is one of the first departments in the county to have the personal sized imagers. According to the Daily Globe, the department used a pair of grants —from Enbridge Inc. and Walmart — to help fund the purchase of the personal units and a larger, hand-held truck unit. The personal thermal imagers will also help make fighting structure fires a little safer. Chief Robert Brentar has said he hopes the warning the equipment provides won’t be needed, but it’s better for the department to have it available.
